BCEL Your cloud classroom using Bb Collaborate Ultra (Advanced)

This session builds upon the introductory session and focuses on designing and delivering an engaging and interactive cloud session using Bb Collaborate Ultra. This session is appropriate for teaching staff who have completed the introductory session, regular users of the tool and or are seeking ideas to enhance their cloud synchronous teaching using this tool. By completing this session, staff should be able to: Master key interactive features of Bb Collaborate Ultra such as participant window, audio, chat, whiteboard, polling and application share Identify good practice examples of using Bb Collaborate Ultra to support active learning Design interactive and engaging strategies into their cloud classroom session Use the breakout rooms feature to engage, interact and manage groups Troubleshoot common issues, know where to get help and support. This session will be conducted online. Please join us here: Facilitators will be in the session 15mins prior to the start of the session. BEFORE the session ***Staff participants must set up their computer with an Internet connection, obtain a microphone headset, and go through Bb Collaborate audio setup test to participate online. *** Preparation: You will require a web enabled computer, latest browsers, webcam and microphone USB headset to talk and listen. Install the latest browsers Chrome v52+ with appropriate Chrome desktop sharing plugin to fully participate. If you are presenting/facilitating a session, your computer should NOT be using Wifi but instead using cabled Internet for better experience. You should turn-off Wifi on your computer so it is defaulted to cable Internet. In order to participate in a Bb Collaborate Ultra session, you will need to ensure your computer and other hardware are set up correctly. It is highly recommended you follow these instructions – Blackboard Collaborate Ultra Setup Guidelines – Setup info for first time users(half way down the page) before the start of your session to ensure any issues are resolved. BCEL Learning Spaces – Your campus class, seminar and converged learning spaces

The first part of the session covers good practices and active learning approaches to delivering learning. The second part of the session is devoted to demonstration and hands-on play with learning space facilities and associated technologies to deliver enhanced learning experiences. By the end of this session, staff should be able to: Identify relevant learning spaces and associated technologies to deliver active learning Design active learning strategies to enhance student learning experiences Use appropriate learning space facilities and technologies to effectively deliver learning, including: Troubleshoot common AV issues and know who to contact for support – Touchscreen AMX controllers, camera and microphone/speaker equipment and DocCam Deakin Video capture equipment in the venue and CloudDeakin Technologies to connect cloud participants/classes i.e. Skype for Business, Blackboard Collaborate, Deakin Video and VMP. DESCRIPTION This is a getting-started introductory session to teaching in the cloud using Bb Collaborate Ultra. Bb Collaborate Ultra is a cloud based synchronous learning tool used for collaborating, communicating and connecting with students in real-time. This session is appropriate for teaching staff who are new to teaching in the cloud and new to this tool. By completing this session, staff should be able to: Identify uses of Bb Collaborate Ultra to support teaching and learning Use the basic features of Bb Collaborate Ultra such as audio, chat, whiteboard, polling and application share Record a Bb Collaborate Ultra session and access recording Setup and communicate a Bb Collaborate Ultra session Set up physical space, computer, mics and Internet conducive to delivering a cloud session Troubleshoot common issues and know where to get help. BCEL Engaging students using Intelligent Agents

CloudDeakin is Deakin University’s cloud learning environment. The Intelligent Agents tool sits within the main learning management system in CloudDeakin. Intelligent Agents allows staff to automatically generate a personalized email to various conditions that may result from within your unit. Intelligent Agents has proven to contribute to assisting with student retention and engagement. This is a practical session where participants will engage in hands-on design and set up of intelligent agents based on good practice examples and to effectively use intelligent agents to support their teaching in the cloud environment. Register here By completing this session, staff should be able to: Identify potential uses of Intelligent Agents as one of many techniques for assisting with student retention and engagement. Identify and activate good practice Intelligent Agent examples in CloudDeakin unit sites. Understand the steps required to set up Intelligent Agents. Understand the various conditions that could be used send out Intelligent Agents. Understand how to personalize Intelligent Agent emails. Manage Intelligent Agents in a CloudDeakin unit site including creating, activating, modifying and removing agents. Know where to get help and support. Location: Burwood LB2.101 Session Welcome and Introduction to Teaching and Learning 10:30am – 11:00am (30mins) This session introduces key drivers impacting Australian Higher Education and provides an overview of the outcomes-based educational foundations of teaching in higher education. Our Deakin University’s LIVE Strategy, Faculty of Business and Law’s Teaching and Learning Strategy and various teaching and learning support services will be discussed. Session Managing Student Expectations and Learning Interactions 11:00am – 12:00pm (1hr) This session will cover strategies to manage student expectations to help promote positive learning interactions, as well as communicating with students, managing student problems and problem students. BREAK Lunch provided 12:00pm – 12:30pm Session Facilitating Active Learning in Face-to-Face Learning Environments 12:30am – 1:30pm (1hr) This session will provide a menu of active learning ideas to assist participants in delivering and facilitating active learning in face-to-face class and seminar learning environments, as well as examine good practice examples. Session Facilitating Active Learning in Cloud Learning Environments 1:30pm – 2:30pm (1hr) This session will provide a menu of active learning ideas for promoting active learning in cloud learning environments and examine good practice examples, including facilitating cloud-based discussions, posing problems, listening and questioning.
